Mike McEwen (Winnipeg, MB) lost 5-2 to Kevin Martin (Edmonton, AB) in the Final of the Victoria Curling Classic Invitational, held March 29 - April 1, 2012 in Victoria, British Columbia. To advance to the championship game, McEwen won 6-5 over Rob Fowler (Brandon, MB) in the semifinals of the 2012 Victoria Curling Classic Invitational in Victoria, British Columbia; and won 7-2 over Jim Cotter (Vernon, BC) in the quarterfinals. of the 2012 Victoria Curling Classic Invitational in Victoria, British Columbia;
McEwen finished 3-2 in the 16-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, McEwen defeated Rob Iuvale (Victoria, BC) 5-2, then went on to lose 7-6 against Steve Petryk (Calgary, AB). McEwen lost 5-3 to Kevin Koe (Edmonton, AB) where McEwen responded with a 6-3 win over Naomasa Takeda (Kariuzawa, JPN). McEwen won 4-3 against Brock Virtue (Regina, SK) in their final qualifying round match.
With their runner-up finish at the Victoria Curling Classic Invitational, McEwen take home 16.850 world rankings points along with the $13,000CDN prize. For week 33 of the event schedule, McEwen did not improve upon their best events, remaining at 1st place on the World Ranking Standings with 468.830 total points. McEwen ranks 1st overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 230.510 points earned so far this season.
