Kanya Shimizun (Furano, JPN) finished 2-6 in the 9-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Shimizun lost 11-4 to Yasumoto Natsuizaka (Karuizawa, JPN), droppimg another game, 7-2 to Japan's Junpei Kanda where Shimizun responded with a 8-3 win over Japan's Ryo Wakabayashi. Shimizun went on to lose 7-5 against Gaku Suzuki (Sapporo, JPN). Shimizun lost 5-4 to Japan's Ryo Ogihara. Shimizun lost 8-3 to Yusuke Morozumi (Karuizawa, JPN) where Shimizun responded with a 7-6 win over Minoru Kusaka (Aomori, JPN). Shimizun went on to lose 11-3 against Shinya Abe (Sapporo, JPN) in their final qualifying round match.

Shimizun earned 0.998 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins, moving up 251 spots the World Ranking Standings into 464th place overall with 0.998 total points. Shimizun ranks 400th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 0.998 points earned so far this season.
