Glen Hansen (Edmonton, AB) won 4-2 over Charley Thomas (Edmonton, AB) in the Final of the Avonair Cash Spiel, held September 30 - October 2, 2016 at the Avonair Curling Club in Edmonton, Canada. To advance to the championship game, Hansen won 4-3 over Warren Cross (Edmonton, ) in the semifinals of the 2016 Avonair Cash Spiel in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; and won 8-6 over Ted Appelman (Edmonton, AB) in the quarterfinals.
Hansen finished 2-1 in the 24-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Hansen lost 6-3 to Thomas, then responded with a 5-4 win over Dwayne Schultz (Edmonton, AB). Hansen won 7-6 against Thomas Scoffin (Edmonton, AB) in their final qualifying round match.
For winning the Avonair Cash Spiel Championship title, Hansen earned 24.150 world rankings points along with the $3,300CDN first prize cheque, moving up 172 spots the World Ranking Standings into 108th place overall with 28.960 total points. Hansen ranks 39th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 24.150 points earned so far this season.
