Abbey Kitchens (Devils Lake, ND) lost 7-4 to Madison Bear (Pardeeville, WI) in the Final of the USA Junior Womens National Championship, held January 27 - February 3, 2018 at the Detroit Curling Club in Ferndale, United States. To advance to the championship game, Kitchens won 6-5 over Beth Podoll (Fargo, ND) in the semifinals of the 2018 USA Junior Womens National Championship in Ferndale, Michigan, United States;
Kitchens finished 7-2 in the 10-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Kitchens defeated Ariel Traxler (Fairbanks, AK) 10-4, then won 9-0 against Christine McMakin (St. Paul, MN) and 5-4 against Maya Willertz (Midland, MI). Kitchens won 7-4 against Cora Farrell (Blaine, MN), then won 8-5 against Anya Normandeau (Burnsville, MN). Kitchens went on to lose 9-5 against Podoll. Kitchens responded with a 7-2 win over Sara Olson (Duluth, MN). Kitchens went on to lose 9-3 against Bear. Kitchens responded with a 9-7 win over Mackenzie Page (Mankato, MN) in their final qualifying round match.
With their runner-up finish at the USA Junior Womens National Championship, Kitchens take home 12.227 world rankings points. For week 26 of the event schedule, Kitchens did not improve upon their best events, remaining at th place on the World Ranking Standings with total points. Kitchens ranks th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with points earned so far this season.
