Alina Kovaleva (Saint-Petersburg, RUS) finished 7-0 in the 8-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Kovaleva defeated Jennifer Jones (Winnipeg, MB) 9-3, then won 8-4 against Madeleine Dupont (Hvidovre, DEN) and 5-3 against Annmarie Dubberstein (Chaska, USA). Kovaleva won 5-3 against Sophie Jackson (Stirling, SCO), then won 8-4 against Daniela Jentsch (Fuessen, GER) and 6-2 against Jie Mei (Beijing, CHN). Kovaleva won 5-4 against Ursi Hegner (Uzwil, SUI) in their final qualifying round match.

For winning the China Open Championship title, Kovaleva earned 34.594 world rankings points along with the $65,552CDN first prize cheque. Kovaleva move up 4 spots after posting a net gain of 29.251 points improving upon their best 4 results so far this season, ranking 19th overall with 176.468 total points on the World Ranking Standings.
