Johnson Tao (Edmonton, AB) finished 5-0 in the 8-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Tao defeated Osten Sahulka (Brandon, MB) 11-2, then won 7-6 against Josh Bryden (Regina, SK) and 8-5 against Reid Zingel (Victoria, BC). Tao won 12-0 against Sam Nygaard (Lethbridge, AB), then won 9-4 against Kenan Wipf (Calgary, AB) in their final qualifying round match.

For winning the Canada West Curling Championships Championship title, Tao earned 3.750 world rankings points, moving up 2 spots the World Ranking Standings into 69th place overall with 50.609 total points. Tao ranks 72nd overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 34.500 points earned so far this season.
