In their opening game, Powell defeated Jeff MacPheat (Valleyview, AB) 7-1, then went on to lose 7-6 against Jordan Steinke (Dawson Creek, BC). Powell responded with a 6-4 win over Mark Pillsworth (Grande Prairie, AB). Powell won 7-5 against Tracy Steinke (Dawson Creek, BC), then won 5-4 against Steinke in their final qualifying round match.
