Stoughton finished 4-1 in the 24-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Stoughton defeated Martin Ferland (Quebec, PQ) 5-1, then won 5-4 against Bryan Cochrane (Ottawa, ON) and 7-1 against Denis Cordick (Toronto, ON). Stoughton won 8-2 against Pierre Charette (Buckingham, PQ). Stoughton went on to lose 6-4 against Sven Michel (Adelboden, SUI) in their final qualifying round match.
