John Shuster (Duluth, USA) finished 8-3 in the 12-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Shuster lost 7-1 to Rasmus Stjerne (Hvidovre, DEN), then responded with a 7-5 win over Aku Kauste (Hyvinkaa, FIN). Shuster went on to lose 10-9 against Kevin Koe (Calgary, CAN). Shuster responded with a 9-6 win over Alexey Tselousov (Moscow, RUS). Shuster won 8-3 against Niklas Edin (Karlstad, SWE), then won 9-7 against Sven Michel (Adelboden, SUI) and 9-7 against Tom Brewster (Aberdeen, SCO). Shuster won 8-3 against Thomas Ulsrud (Oslo, NOR). Shuster went on to lose 8-7 against Yusuke Morozumi (Karuizawa, JPN). Shuster responded with a 8-6 win over SooHyuk Kim (Gangwon, KOR). Shuster won 6-5 against Alexander Baumann (Fuessen, GER) in their final qualifying round match.

Shuster earned 44.937 world rankings points for their Top 3 finish in the World Men's Curling Championship. Shuster move up 1 spots after posting a net gain of 27.179 points improving upon their best results so far this season, ranking 13th overall with 383.046 total points on the World Ranking Standings. Shuster ranks 9th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 256.074 points earned so far this season.
