To advance to the championship game, Fournier won 8-6 over Pierre-Luc Morissette (Quebec, QC) in the semifinals of the 2016 Capital Curling Fall Open Men in Ottawa, Ontario; and won 10-5 over Doug Brewer (Cornwall, ON) in the quarterfinals. of the 2016 Capital Curling Fall Open Men in Ottawa, Ontario;
Fournier finished 3-0 in the 16-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Fournier defeated Chris Gardner (Ottawa, ON) 5-2, then won 4-3 against Jean-Sebastien Roy (Thurso, QC) and 8-3 against Kurtis Byrd (Kingston, ON) in their final qualifying round match.
For winning the Capital Curling Fall Open Men Championship title, Fournier earned 18.900 world rankings points along with the $2,400CDN first prize cheque, moving up 23 spots the World Ranking Standings into 71st place overall with 51.231 total points. Fournier ranks 34th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 21.195 points earned so far this season.
