John Shuster (Duluth, USA) finished 8-3 in the 12-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Shuster defeated Alexey Stukalskiy (Moscow, RUS) 9-2, then went on to lose 7-4 against Peter De Cruz (Geneva, SUI). Shuster lost 9-4 to David Murdoch (Lockerbie, SCO) where Shuster responded with a 8-6 win over Joel Retornaz (Trentino, ITA). Shuster went on to lose 8-2 against Brad Gushue (St. John's, CAN). Shuster responded with a 9-3 win over Steffen Walstad (Oslo, NOR). Shuster won 7-6 against Yusuke Morozumi (Karuizawa, JPN), then won 8-5 against Alexander Baumann (Fuessen, GER) and 8-2 against Rui Liu (Harbin, CHN). Shuster won 6-5 against Jaap van Dorp (Zoetermeer, NED), then won 7-3 against Niklas Edin (Karlstad, SWE) in their final qualifying round match.

Shuster earned 31.122 world rankings points for their Top 4 finish in the Ford World Men's Curling Championship. For week 34 of the event schedule, Shuster did not improve upon their best events, remaining at th place on the World Ranking Standings with total points. Shuster ranks th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with points earned so far this season.
