In their opening game, Kim lost 5-3 to Yusuke Morozumi (Karuizawa, JPN), droppimg another game, 8-3 to Jamie King (Edmonton, AB) where Kim responded with a 6-3 win over Thomas Scoffin (Whitehorse, YK). Kim won 7-5 against Jason Ackerman (Regina, SK). Kim went on to lose 7-2 against Reid Carruthers (Winnipeg, MB) in their final qualifying round match.

Kim earned 2.470 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins, dropping 3 spots on the World Ranking Standings into 53rd place overall with 90.289 total points. Kim ranks 49th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 23.153 points earned so far this season.
