To advance to the championship game, Howard won 8-6 over Mike McEwen (Winnipeg, MB) in the semifinals of the 2017 Canad Inns Men's Classic in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, Canada; and won 6-4 over Yusuke Morozumi (Karuizawa, JPN) in the quarterfinals.
Howard finished 3-0 in the 20-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Howard defeated William Lyburn (Winnipeg, MB) 7-2, then won 7-4 against Brad Jacobs (Sault Ste Marie, ON) and 6-3 against John Epping (Toronto, ON) in their final qualifying round match.
With their runner-up finish at the Canad Inns Men's Classic, Howard take home 47.427 world rankings points along with the $10,000CDN prize, moving up 3 spots the World Ranking Standings into 16th place overall with 268.246 total points. Howard ranks 18th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 82.945 points earned so far this season.
