In their opening game, Usui defeated Sayaka Kimata (Nagoya, JPN) 13-1, then won 9-5 against Ryo Itsubo (Tokyo, JPN) and 9-5 against Nanae Shukuya (Hokkaido, JPN). Usui won 7-6 against Kagetora Kawahira (Karuizawa, JPN), then won 5-4 against Japan's Arihito Kasahaea in their final qualifying round match.

For winning the Obihiro ICE Gold Cup Championship title, Usui earned 9.847 world rankings points along with the $5,825CDN first prize cheque, moving up 33 spots the World Ranking Standings into 122nd place overall with 23.922 total points. Usui ranks 25th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 23.769 points earned so far this season.
