Karsten Sturmay (Edmonton, AB) finished 4-3 in the 21-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Sturmay lost 8-6 to Wouter Gosgens (Zoetermeer, NED), then responded with a 6-5 win over Jacob Libbus (Okotoks, AB). Sturmay won 8-5 against Tyson Armstrong (Lloydminster, AB), then won 5-4 against Matt Dunstone (Winnipeg, MB). Sturmay went on to lose 6-1 against Yannick Schwaller (Geneve, SUI). Sturmay responded with a 4-1 win over Ryan Wiebe (Winnipeg, MB). Sturmay went on to lose 7-4 against Brendan Bottcher (Calgary, AB) in their final qualifying round match.

Sturmay earned 10.500 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins, remaining in 19th place overall on the World Ranking Standings with a net gain of 1.5 after improving upon their best so far this season. Sturmay ranks 25th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 108.500 points earned so far this season.
