To advance to the championship game, Smith/Purcell won 9-4 over Marie Christianson/Nick Mosher (Halifax, NS) in the semifinals of the John Ross & Sons Mixed Doubles Spiel in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada; and won 7-4 over Kristen MacDiarmid/Chris Jeffrey (Halifax, NS) in the quarterfinals. of the John Ross & Sons Mixed Doubles Spiel in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada;

Smith/Purcell finished 2-1 in the 16-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Smith/Purcell defeated Colleen Jones/Brent MacDougall (Halifax, NS) 7-3, then won 9-8 against Kristi Michaleski/Steven Michaleski (Winnipeg, MB). Smith/Purcell went on to lose 9-3 against Marlee Powers/Luke Saunders (Halifax, NS) in their final qualifying round match.

With their runner-up finish at the John Ross & Sons Mixed Doubles Spiel, Smith/Purcell take home 5.500 world rankings points along with the $800CDN prize.
