Shuster finished 3-1 in the 16-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Shuster defeated Bob Leclair (Tempe, AZ) 8-3, then won 11-5 against Steve Laycock (Swift Current, SK). Shuster went on to lose 6-5 against Dustin Kalthoff (Saskatoon, SK). Shuster responded with a 7-5 win over Kleiter in their final qualifying round match.
