Owen Purcell (Halifax, NS) lost 8-5 to Josh Bryden (Regina, SK) in the Final of the USPORT Curling Canada University Championships, held March 12 - 16 in Sudbury, Ontario. To advance to the championship game, Purcell won 8-3 over Sam Mooibroek (Waterloo, ON) in the semifinals of the USPORT Curling Canada University Championships in Sudbury, Ontario;
Purcell finished 5-2 in the 8-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Purcell defeated Johnson Tao (Edmonton, AB) 9-8, then won 10-3 against Nick Mosher (Halifax, NS) and 11-5 against Owen Henry (St.Catherines, ON). Purcell won 8-4 against Bryden. Purcell went on to lose 9-2 against Jayden King (Guelph, ON). Purcell lost 9-2 to Mooibroek where Purcell responded with a 7-6 win over Jamie Stewart (Fredericton, NB) in their final qualifying round match.
With their runner-up finish at the USPORT Curling Canada University Championships, Purcell take home 5.500 world rankings points. For week 34 of the event schedule, Purcell did not improve upon their best events, remaining at 33rd place on the World Ranking Standings with 101.813 total points. Purcell ranks 33rd overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 101.813 points earned so far this season.
