Syunta Kobayashi (Sapporo, JPN) lost 8-4 to Hayaki Kasai (Sapporo, JPN) in the Final of the Japan Intercollegiate Curling Championship, held November 29 - December 3 at the Kitami Curling Club in Kitami, Japan. To advance to the championship game, Kobayashi won 7-2 over Kentaro Koike (Hirosaki, JPN) in the semifinals of the Japan Intercollegiate Curling Championship in Kitami, Japan, Japan;
Kobayashi finished 3-1 in the 10-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Kobayashi defeated Hirohiro Okamoto (Akita, JPN) 9-1, then won 7-3 against Takuma Harada (Toyama, JPN). Kobayashi went on to lose 6-5 against Harunobu Kawahira (Obihiro, JPN). Kobayashi responded with a 5-4 win over Motojiro Go (Kitami, JPN) in their final qualifying round match.
With their runner-up finish at the Japan Intercollegiate Curling Championship, Kobayashi take home 2.750 world rankings points. For week 19 of the event schedule, Kobayashi did not improve upon their best events, improving from 328th to 310th place overall on the World Ranking Standings with 2.250 total points. Kobayashi ranks 248th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 2.250 points earned so far this season.
