Carey finished 9-2 in the 16-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Carey defeated Tracy Fleury (East St. Paul, MB) 7-6, then won 6-5 against Jill Brothers (Halifax, NS) and 7-6 against Krista McCarville (Thunder Bay, NONT). Carey won 9-8 against Sarah Wark (Abbotsford, BC), then won 10-5 against Jenine Bodner (Iqaluit, NU) and 6-3 against Homan. Carey won 12-3 against Gabrielle Lavoie (Quebec, QC). Carey went on to lose 10-8 against Jennifer Jones (Winnipeg, CAN). Carey lost 10-6 to Suzanne Birt (Charlottetown, PEI) where Carey responded with a 10-3 win over Robyn Silvernagle (North Battleford, SK). Carey won 9-8 against Casey Scheidegger (Lethbridge, AB) in their final qualifying round match.
 
For winning the Scotties Tournament of Hearts Championship title, Carey earned 75.668 world rankings points.
