Mike McEwen (Winnipeg, MB) won 5-2 over Jeff Stoughton (Winnipeg, MB) in the Final of the BDO Canadian Open, held December 14 - 18, 2011 in Kingston, Ontario. To advance to the championship game, McEwen won 8-2 over Niklas Edin (Karlstad, SWE) in the semifinals of the 2011 BDO Canadian Open in Kingston, Ontario; and won 6-5 over Jean-Michel Menard (Gatineau/Levis, QC) in the quarterfinals.
 
McEwen finished 5-0 in the 18-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, McEwen defeated Mark Kean (Toronto, ON) 8-2, then won 6-4 against Tom Brewster (Aberdeen, SCO) and 6-1 against John Epping (Toronto, ON). McEwen won 6-4 against Brad Gushue (St. John's, NL), then won 8-3 against Edin in their final qualifying round match.
 
For winning the BDO Canadian Open Championship title, McEwen earned 40.000 world rankings points along with the $25,000CDN first prize cheque, remaining in 1st place overall on the World Ranking Standings with a net gain of 34 after improving upon their best so far this season. McEwen ranks 1st overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 219.015 points earned so far this season.
