To advance to the championship game, Murphy won 4-1 over James Grattan (Oromocto, NB) in the semifinals of the 2017 WFG Jim Sullivan Curling Classic in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada; and won 7-6 over Stuart Thompson (Dartmouth, NS) in the quarterfinals. of the 2017 WFG Jim Sullivan Curling Classic in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada;
 
Murphy finished 4-1 in the 18-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Murphy defeated Tallon 8-7, then won 5-2 against Robert Mayhew (Halifax, NS). Murphy went on to lose 6-4 against Paul Dobson (Saint John, NB). Murphy responded with a 8-5 win over Dave Sullivan (Saint John, NB). Murphy won 8-4 against Paul Dexter (Halifax, NS) in their final qualifying round match.
 
For winning the WFG Jim Sullivan Curling Classic Championship title, Murphy earned 18.912 world rankings points along with the $5,000CDN first prize cheque, moving up 4 spots the World Ranking Standings into 45th place overall with 157.252 total points. Murphy ranks 39th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 74.106 points earned so far this season.
