Gunnlaugson finished 3-1 in the 15-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Gunnlaugson defeated Jason Jacobson (Saskatoon, SK) 10-1, then won 7-2 against Greg Drummond (Stirling, SCO) and 6-1 against Lyburn. Gunnlaugson went on to lose 8-2 against Craig Brown (Madison, USA) in their final qualifying round match.
 
For winning the GSOC Tour Challenge Tier 2 Championship title, Gunnlaugson earned 46.519 world rankings points along with the $10,000CDN first prize cheque, moving up 3 spots the World Ranking Standings into 14th place overall with 236.204 total points. Gunnlaugson ranks 6th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 64.303 points earned so far this season.
