Sylvie Robichaud wins WFG Jim Sullivan Curling Classic
Sylvie Robichaud (Moncton, NB) wins the WFG Jim Sullivan Curling Classic, defeating Veronica Smith (Charlottetown, PEI) 8-6 at the Thistle St. Andrews Curling Club in Saint John, Canada. Robichaud with Melissa Adams at third, Nicole Bishop and Kendra Lister on the front end take home the $1,700CDN first place cheque along with 14.333 world ranking points, while Smith receives $1,100CDN and 11.261 world ranking points for their second place finish. Starting with hammer, Robichaud scored 2 in the first end, Smith responding in the second end scoring 2. then adding a steal in the third end. Robichaud responded in the fourth end scoring 2 to take a 4-3 lead after Smith scored a single in the fifth end, then added a steal of 2 in the sixth end. Robichaud scored 3 in the seventh end to take back the lead, then added a steal in the eighth end to lock down the 8-6 win. In the semifinals, Robichaud defeated Robyn MacPhee (Charlottetown, PEI) 7-5 and Smith defeated Jennifer Armstrong (Fredericton, NB) 7-3. Armstrong and MacPhee earned $700CDN and 8.702 ranking points for their semifinal finishes. In the quarterfinals, Robichaud defeated Sarah Mallais (Saint John, NB) 7-3 and Smith defeated Shelly Graham (Moncton, NB) 6-2. Mallais, Graham earned $400CDN along with 3.071 ranking points for their quarterfinal finishes. Robichaud went 3-1 in the 10 team round-robin pools qualifying round. In their opening game, Robichaud lost 5-2 to MacPhee, then responded with a 7-1 win over Kathy Hicks (Fredericton , NB). Robichaud won against Mallais 6-3, then won against Heidi Hanlon (Saint John, NB) 8-7 in their final qualifying round match. |
