Don Walchuk (Edmonton, AB) 8-5, then won 9-8 against Ron Gauthier (Winnipeg, MB) and 10-3 against Rob Ewen (Janzen, SK). Pineau went on to lose 10-6 against Kevin Martin (Edmonton, AB). Pineau responded with a 10-6 win over Gerald Shymko (Yorkton, SK). Pineau went on to lose 6-5 against Gary Scheirich (Saskatoon, SK). Pineau lost 10-9 to Ed Lukowich (Calgary, AB) in their final qualifying round match.
