Brad Gushue (St. John`s, NL) needed a tiebreaker to advance to the playoffs, Gushue finished 2-2 in the 15-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Gushue defeated Ryan Fry (Winnipeg, MB) 6-2, then went on to lose 7-6 against John Morris (Calgary, AB). Gushue lost 8-3 to Randy Ferbey (Edmonton, AB) where Gushue responded with a 6-5 win over Pete Fenson (Bemidji, MN) in their final qualifying round match.
