Jean-Michel Menard (St-Romuald, PQ) finished 8-3 in the 12-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Menard lost
12-6 to Glenn Howard (Coldwater, ON), then responded with a 10-2 win over Pat Simmons (Davidson, SK). Menard won 11-6 against Mark Dacey (Halifax, NS). Menard went on to lose 10-8 against Rod MacDonald (Charlottetown, PEI). Menard responded with a 10-5 win over Robbie Gordon (Halleybury, NONT). Menard won 10-8 against Jeff Stoughton (Winnipeg, MB), then won 5-3 against Jamie Koe (Yellowknife, Y/NWT). Menard went on to lose 7-5 against Brian Windsor (Kamloops, BC). Menard responded with a 9-5 win over Kevin Martin (Edmonton, AB). Menard won 9-3 against James Grattan (Oromocto, NB), then won 7-2 against Ken Peddigrew (St. Johns, NL) in their final qualifying round match.
