Bob Ursel (Kelowna, BC) finished 3-3 in the 32-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Ursel defeated British Columbia's Brian Gessner 5-0, then won 6-3 against Don Walchuk (Edmonton, AB). Ursel went on to lose 7-4 against Pat Simmons (Davidson, SK). Ursel responded with a 11-4 win over Pete Fenson (Bemidji, MN). Ursel went on to lose 7-6 against Brian Windsor (Kamloops, BC). Ursel lost 8-5 to Walchuk in their final qualifying round match.
