9-7 to Darren Smale (Kamloops, BC), then responded with a 10-5 win over Japan's Hiro Kashiwagi. Pierce won 11-6 against Don Walchuk (Edmonton, AB), then won 4-2 against Greg McAulay (Richmond, BC). Pierce went on to lose 7-2 against Kevin Martin (Edmonton, AB). Pierce lost 7-6 to Dean Ross (Calgary, AB) in their final qualifying round match.
