Howard Rajala (Ottawa, ) finished 5-2 in the 48-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Rajala defeated
Sean Geall (New Westminster, BC) 8-7, then went on to lose 10-4 against Kerry Burtnyk (Winnipeg, MB). Rajala lost 9-4 to Joe Frans (Oakville, ON) where Rajala responded with a 9-6 win over Martin Ferland (Trois-Rivières, QC). Rajala won 7-6 against James Kirkness (Winnipeg, MB), then won 7-5 against Mark Johnson (Edmonton, AB) and 8-4 against Jean-Michel Menard (Québec City/Gatineau, QC) in their final qualifying round match.
 
The berth into the first round of the John Shea Insurance Canada Cup Qualifier playoffs earned Rajala 0.000 world rankings points.
