Heather Strong (St. John, NL) finished 4-3 in the 32-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Strong defeated Patti Lank (Niagara Falls, NY) 5-4, then won 7-6 against Jennifer Jones (Winnipeg, MB). Strong went on to lose 6-5 against Mary-Anne Arsenault (Halifax, NS). Strong responded with a 7-2 win over Eve Belisle (Montreal, PQ). Strong won 4-3 against Julie Reddick (Brantford, ON). Strong went on to lose 5-3 against Sherry Middaugh (Coldwater, ON). Strong lost 5-4 to Marie-France Larouche (Quebec, PQ) in their final qualifying round match.

Strong earned 6.000 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins. For week of the event schedule, Strong did not improve upon their best events, remaining at th place on the World Ranking Standings with total points. Strong ranks th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with points earned so far this season.
