Ken Watson (Surrey, BC) finished 2-3 in the 32-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Watson defeated Chris Schille (Edmonton, AB) 4-3, then went on to lose 4-1 against Bob Ursel (Kelowna, BC). Watson responded with a 5-3 win over Russia's Andrey Drozdov. Watson went on to lose 4-3 against Jamie Koe (Yellowknife, NT). Watson lost 7-6 to Mark Johnson (Seattle, USA) in their final qualifying round match.
