Mike McEwen (Winnipeg, MB) finished 2-3 in the 0-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, McEwen lost 10-5 to Wayne Middaugh (Toronto, ON), then responded with a 7-2 win over Russ Howard (Moncton, NB). McEwen went on to lose 8-7 against Kevin Martin (Edmonton, AB). McEwen responded with a 8-5 win over Brad Gushue (St. John's, NL). McEwen went on to lose 8-7 against Randy Ferbey (Edmonton, AB) in their final qualifying round match.

McEwen earned 6.000 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins. McEwen ranks th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with points earned so far this season.
