Kevin Martin (Edmonton, CAN) lost 7-6 to Scotland's David Murdoch in the Final of the Ford World Men's Curling Championship, held April 3 - 12, 2009 in Moncton, New Brunswick.
 
Martin finished 10-1 in the 0-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Martin defeated Japan's Yusuke Morozumi 7-4, then won 7-2 against France's Thomas Dufour and 9-4 against Fengchun Wang (Harbin, CHN). Martin won 10-4 against Czech Republic's Jiri Snitil, then won 6-4 against Germany's Andy Kapp and 8-3 against Switzerland's Ralph Stöckli. Martin won 9-2 against Norway's Thomas Ulsrud, then won 12-4 against Finland's Kalle Kiiskinen and 9-6 against John Shuster (Duluth, USA). Martin won 10-4 against Denmark's Ulrik Schmidt. Martin went on to lose 6-5 against Scotland's David Murdoch in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their runner-up finish at the Ford World Men's Curling Championship, Martin take home 30.000 world rankings points. For week of the event schedule, Martin did not improve upon their best events, remaining at th place on the World Ranking Standings with total points. Martin ranks th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with points earned so far this season.
