Germany's Andy Kapp 6-5, then went on to lose 12-6 against Scotland's David Murdoch. Shuster responded with a 10-3 win over Switzerland's Ralph Stöckli. Shuster went on to lose 7-5 against Norway's Thomas Ulsrud. Shuster responded with a 9-8 win over Fengchun Wang (Harbin, CHN). Shuster won 9-1 against Japan's Yusuke Morozumi. Shuster went on to lose 9-6 against Denmark's Ulrik Schmidt. Shuster lost 9-6 to Kevin Martin (Edmonton, CAN) where Shuster responded with a 7-4 win over Finland's Kalle Kiiskinen. Shuster won 7-6 against Czech Republic's Jiri Snitil, then won 9-6 against France's Thomas Dufour in their final qualifying round match.
 
Shuster earned 14.000 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins. For week of the event schedule, Shuster did not improve upon their best events, remaining at th place on the World Ranking Standings with total points. Shuster ranks th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with points earned so far this season.
