Elias finished 5-2 in the 32-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Elias lost 5-4 to Ryan Hyde (Portage la Prairie, MB), then responded with a 7-3 win over David Kraichy (Winnipeg, MB). Elias won 7-2 against Don Spriggs (Portage la Prairie, MB), then won 9-6 against Randy Dutiaume (Winnipeg, MB). Elias went on to lose 7-1 against Allan Lyburn (Brandon, MB). Elias responded with a 7-4 win over Dave Boehmer (Petersfield, MB). Elias won 5-3 against Spriggs in their final qualifying round match.
