Brad Gushue (St. John's, NL) finished 4-3 in the 32-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Gushue defeated Korea's Chang-Min Kim 10-3, then went on to lose 9-6 against Pat Simmons (Davidson, SK). Gushue responded with a 7-3 win over British Columbia's Jay Peachey. Gushue won 10-5 against Mike McEwen (Winnipeg, MB), then won 8-4 against Kevin Martin (Edmonton, AB). Gushue went on to lose 6-2 against Glenn Howard (Coldwater, ON). Gushue lost 7-3 to Chris Schille (Edmonton, AB) in their final qualifying round match.
 
Gushue earned 5.000 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins. For week of the event schedule, Gushue did not improve upon their best events, remaining at th place on the World Ranking Standings with total points. Gushue ranks th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with points earned so far this season.
