To advance to the championship game, Gushue won 6-5 over Glenn Howard (Coldwater, ON) in the semifinals of the 2010 The National in Guelph, Ontario; and won 6-3 over Mike McEwen (Winnipeg, MB) in the quarterfinals. of the 2010 The National in Guelph, Ontario;
 
Gushue finished 3-2 in the 18-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Gushue defeated Jason Gunnlaugson (Beausejour, MB) 7-4, then went on to lose 4-3 against David Murdoch (Scotland, UK). Gushue responded with a 7-1 win over Sean Geall (New Westminster, BC). Gushue won 7-3 against Kerry Burtnyk (Winnipeg, MB). Gushue went on to lose 6-5 against Ferbey in their final qualifying round match.
 
For winning the The National Championship title, Gushue earned 40.000 world rankings points along with the $24,000CDN first prize cheque. For week of the event schedule, Gushue did not improve upon their best events, remaining at th place on the World Ranking Standings with total points. Gushue ranks th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with points earned so far this season.
