McEwen finished 3-1 in the 24-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, McEwen defeated Fengchun Wang (Harbin, CHN) 6-4, then won 7-1 against Wayne Middaugh (Toronto, ON). McEwen went on to lose 6-2 against Kevin Martin (Edmonton, AB). McEwen responded with a 7-4 win over Sean Geall (New Westminster, BC) in their final qualifying round match.
 
McEwen earned 20.000 world rankings points for their Top 3 finish in the Cactus Pheasant Classic.
