In their opening game, Heidt defeated Geoff Humphrey (Red Deer, AB) 6-4, then won 6-1 against Mike Jakubo (Sudbury, ON) and 6-2 against Steve Petryk (Calgary, AB). Heidt won 8-3 against Randy Ferbey (Edmonton, AB) in their final qualifying round match.
