David Murdoch (Scotland, UK) qualified for the 2009 Bern Open playoffs, dropping their quarterfinals match 7-6 against Mark Neeleman (Zoetemeer, NED). of the 2009 Bern Open in Bern, Switzerland;

Murdoch finished 5-1 in the 32-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Murdoch defeated David Bartschiger (Burgdorf, SUI) 9-2, then won 5-4 against Switzerland's Stefan Heilmann and 6-4 against Thomas Due (Oslo, NOR). Murdoch went on to lose 5-4 against Russ Howard (Moncton, NB). Murdoch responded with a 9-6 win over Jiri Snitil (Brno, CZE). Murdoch won 7-6 against Bartschiger in their final qualifying round match.

Murdoch earned 7.710 world rankings points for their Top 5 finish in the Bern Open.
