Warwick Smith (Perth, SCO) qualified for the 2009 Bern Open playoffs, dropping their quarterfinals match 6-1 against Russ Howard (Moncton, NB). of the 2009 Bern Open in Bern, Switzerland;

Smith went on to lose 6-5 against Peter Loudon (Perth, SCO). Smith lost 5-3 to Mark Neeleman (Zoetemeer, NED) where Smith responded with a 7-3 win over Switzerland's Sven Michel. Smith won 7-6 against Finland's Markku Uusipaavalniemi in their final qualifying round match.
