Sik went on to lose 9-1 against Mark Neeleman (Zoetemeer, NED). Sik responded with a 9-8 win over Pierre Charette (Etchemin, PQ). Sik won 8-2 against Hungary's Lajos Belleli. Sik went on to lose 6-5 against David Bartschiger (Burgdorf, SUI) in their final qualifying round match.
 
Sik earned 2.570 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins.
