Murdoch advanced through the quarterfinals with a 6-0 win over Claudio Pescia (St. Galler, SUI). of the 2009 Lucerne Curling Trophy in Lucerne, Switzerland;

Murdoch finished 5-0 in the 24-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Murdoch defeated Jiri Snitil (Brno, CZE) 4-3, then won 7-5 against Andrey Drozdov (Moscow, RUS) and 5-4 against Toni Mueller (Baden Regio, SUI). Murdoch won 8-3 against Patrick Vuille (Glarus, SUI), then won 7-3 against Austria's Harald Fendt in their final qualifying round match.
