Ulrik Schmidt (Copenhagen, DEN) qualified for the 2009 Lucerne Curling Trophy playoffs, dropping their quarterfinals match 6-5 against Switzerland's Markus Eggler. of the 2009 Lucerne Curling Trophy in Lucerne, Switzerland;
 
Schmidt finished 4-1 in the 24-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Schmidt lost 6-5 to Switzerland's Markus Eggler, then responded with a 6-4 win over Warwick Smith (Perth, SCO). Schmidt won 7-2 against Italy's Stefano Ferronato, then won 8-7 against Switzerland's Michael Hoechner and 9-2 against Thomas Due (Oslo, NOR) in their final qualifying round match.
 
Schmidt earned 7.950 world rankings points for their Top 5 finish in the Lucerne Curling Trophy. For week of the event schedule, Schmidt did not improve upon their best events, remaining at th place on the World Ranking Standings with total points. Schmidt ranks th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with points earned so far this season.
