Burtnyk finished 4-1 in the 20-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Burtnyk lost 6-5 to Brent Bawel (Calgary, AB), then responded with a 10-7 win over Jamie King (Edmonton, AB). Burtnyk won 7-5 against Doug Rae (Edmonton, AB), then won 6-1 against Warren Hassall (Lloydminster, SK) and 8-1 against Aaron Sluchinski (Airdrie, AB) in their final qualifying round match.
 
Burtnyk earned 10.050 world rankings points for their Top 5 finish in the September Shoot-Out.
