Stoughton finished 4-1 in the 18-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Stoughton defeated Jason Montgomery (Duncan, BC) 7-2, then won 4-3 against Kevin Park (Winnipeg, MB) and 5-3 against Ted Appelman (Edmonton, AB). Stoughton went on to lose 7-4 against Niklas Edin (Karlstad, SWE). Stoughton responded with a 5-3 win over Martin in their final qualifying round match.
