Greg McAulay (Richmond, BC) 5-2, then went on to lose 7-3 against Pat Simmons (Davidson, SK). Appelman lost 4-3 to Yusuke Morozumi (Karuizawa, JPN) where Appelman responded with a 8-2 win over Sven Michel (Adelboden, SUI). Appelman won 7-3 against Tyrel Griffith (Vernon, BC). Appelman went on to lose 5-2 against Mike McEwen (Winnipeg, MB) in their final qualifying round match.
 
Appelman earned 5.000 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins, dropping 1 spots on the World Ranking Standings into 13th place overall with 94.500 total points. Appelman ranks 30th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 16.150 points earned so far this season.
