Fernie finished 5-1 in the 32-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Fernie defeated Switzerland's Claudio Pescia 7-6, then won 8-4 against David Murdoch (Lockerbie, SCO) and 5-3 against Hammy McMillan (Stranraer, SCO). Fernie went on to lose 5-4 against Switzerland's Thomas Lips. Fernie responded with a 6-5 win over Switzerland's Claudio Pescia. Fernie won 6-4 against Murdoch in their final qualifying round match.
