Fowler finished 4-1 in the 24-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Fowler defeated Joel Jordison (Moose Jaw, SK) 6-2, then went on to lose 8-7 against Jeff Hartung (Langenburg, SK). Fowler responded with a 7-2 win over Sam Antila (Thompson, MB). Fowler won 9-5 against Brendan Taylor (Brandon, MB), then won 7-4 against Gunnlaugson in their final qualifying round match.
